White Fillings (Composite Fillings)
Cosmetic Dentistry is able to provide beautiful tooth colored dental fillings for functional, natural-looking results. Composite fillings closely match the color of the tooth. No more silver and gray ugly fillings. White fillings are bonded to the tooth and help restore much of the original strength of the tooth. White fillings require less removal of tooth structure and are mercury-free.
Dr. Nugent’s goal is to provide cosmetic dentistry that is undetectable. When teeth are severely damaged then a crown is used to restore the tooth to proper form and function.
Reason for crowns include:
- A tooth that has a large cavity.
- A severely broken or chipped tooth.
- A tooth that has had root canal therapy.
- A tooth that has a large filling that is failing.
- To replace a failing or unacceptable existing crown.
- To improve the cosmetic appearance of a tooth.
- Today’s crowns are very cosmetic. No more ugly crowns of the past.
One the coolest things about dentistry today is that amount of choices Dr. Nugent has. Not long ago dentists only had two choices of dental crowns: a gold crown or porcelain fused to metal (PFM) crown. The gold crown is a great crown but it is not cosmetic. Patients do not want to walk around and show gold when they smile. A PFM crown looks more like a tooth. However, the metal substrate can often leave a non-cosmetic black line around the gum tissue. Today, non-metal all ceramic crowns are used. There are multiple types and variations but the key concept is that they do not contain any dark metals and they are extremely cosmetic.
Dr. Nugent can also create dental crown right here in his office.
